Wales (UK) Travel Guide

Introduction

Overview & Introduction to Wales (UK)
Together they present a varied display of Welsh life rich in history and heritage. Across this hilly landscape you’ll find interesting monuments, landmarks and other sightseeing opportunities.
Throughout the peak summer season, it’s the country’s seaside resorts that attract the most visitors. Popular centres such as Anglesey, Llandudno, Tenby, Carmathen and Fishguard, offer some lovely beaches where a combination of relaxation and lively activity is on offer, provided the weather holds up. The local visitor infrastructures are developed enough to provide suitable amenities and accommodation without ruining the natural charm of the places.
Snowdownia in the North, and the Brecon Beacons in the South, are two much loved protected areas of hilly natural beauty.
Wales has just five cities; Bangor, Cardiff, Newport, St David's and Swansea with Cardiff being its capital. This modern, cosmopolitan city offers all the trappings of 21st century living as well as some interesting historic sights, and some annual festivals that are well worth attending. Swansea, is the country’s second largest city and also has its fair share of attractions, including a great beach and promenade and a variety of beautiful parks and gardens.
Wales is reached fairly easily with most airbourne visitors arriving via Cardiff International Airport. Other entry point are the ferry ports at Fishguard, Holyhead (Anglesey), Pembroke and Swansea. But the vast majority come from London and other parts of England, either by car directly on the M4, or hourly fast train services between London and Cardiff - each taking about three hours.
Trains provide access from across the United Kingdom while bus services from Europe are also available. Wales is well connected to the UK’s motorway network making access by road fairly uncomplicated.
