January Festivals

New Year’s Day: a public holiday in Wales and a day on which to recover from the excesses of the previous night and to enjoy get-togethers with family and friends.
February Festivals

Pancake Tuesday: generally falling in February but occasionally in March, (depending on the Christian calendar), this traditional festival is also known as Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally Welsh folk enjoying tasty pancakes with lemon or sugar on the last day before the period of abstinence known as Lent.
St David’s Day: Wales’ patron saint is a much loved character and people across the country pay tribute to him on this day with a variety of events and activities. Newport enjoys a St David’s Day concert, Cardiff hosts a St David's Day Parade and Swansea sees a plethora of events in its role as host city for the National Eisteddfod. Many locals don traditional costumes or attach a daffodil to their regular clothing.
April Festivals

RHS Cardiff Flower Show: this is the first of several shows of this nature staged by the Royal Horticultural Society over the UK’s spring-summer period. Bute Park in Cardiff is the setting for this popular show which sees, among other things, show-gardens from garden societies, designers and colleges across the country.
Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza: this old fashioned street fair sees traditional Victorian street entertainment, stalls and music as well as an exhibition of class steam engines.
June Festivals

Abersoch Jazz Festival: the seaside resort of Abersoch enjoys performances by jazz artists of local, national and international repute.
The Llangollen Fringe Festival: live music from a variety of genres and performance art airs throughout the month at a variety of venues in Llangollen.
Wakestock: Wales’ biggest wakeboarding festival takes place at Abersoch, Penrhos and Pwllheli. The festival lasts two days and is accompanied by live music by big name artists from the world of rock.
September Festivals

Cardiff Mardi Gras: held at Coopers Field, the Mardi Gras is the city of Cardiff’s annual celebration of gay and lesbian culture in Wales.
Abergavenny Food Festival: the town of Abergavenny hosts this popular gastronomically-themed event with demonstrations by top Welsh chefs, tastings, and market stalls.
November Festivals

Guy Fawkes Day: Wales enjoys this popular seasonal holiday in line with the rest of the United Kingdom. Firework displays are held across the country in memory of the attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament in the 17th century.
December Festivals

Christmas: Wales enjoys the Christmas season as enthusiastically as anywhere with many of its big cities holding ‘turning on Christmas lights’ ceremonies. The 25th and 26th are public holidays and time for getting together with family and friends.
