Introduction to Porthmadog, Wales

In the north of Wales, close to the famous Llyn Peninsula, is the coastal port town of Porthmadog. It is a popular place to visit for daytrips with those staying in towns nearby for its picturesque town centre and harbour, good shops selling high quality local products and the heritage Ffestiniog Railway which passes through the town. Hotels in Porthmadog are mostly located in the north of the town, close to the shopping area and Porthmadog railway station, though there are also some Porthmadog hotels close to the harbour and the Ffestiniog Railway station. Porthmadog hotels are a mixture of self catering accommodation, mid range hotels and guesthouses though the self catering accommodation is outside of the town centre, close to the rural areas and their astounding natural beauty. There is also a large and historic hotel on Stryd Fawr, which is the busiest in the town.
