Introduction to Newtown, Wales
Newtown is situated on the River Severn in Powys, Mid Wales. It is the county's largest town, with a population of around 13,000 people. This bustling town is at its busiest on Tuesday, market day, when the main street offers up a variety of stalls selling anything from fruit and vegetables to farm implements and old iron tools. The town boasts some nice little shops as well as a number of cafes and pubs. For those who enjoy walking, a nice stroll from Newtown's main street to Dolerw Park, via the Severn Bridge, is recommended. In addition, Severn Way, one of Britain's longest marked walking trails at 338kms in length, passes through the town. Newtown has several interesting museums including the WH Smith Museum, which is laid out in the style of the original WH Smith shops, and the Robert Owen Museum, which tells the story of this local hero who became rich and fought for the poor. For those planning to stay in the town, Newtown hotels are available at prices catering for visitors on varying budgets.
