Introduction to Newport - Gwent, Wales
The city of Newport is on the River Usk in southeast Wales, just 15kms from Cardiff. Newport grew up around the now ruined Newport Castle on the banks of the Usk. The city contains a number of Newport hotels options and the centre of Newport, between the railway station and the old docks, is the vicinity that most of the Newport hotels are found in. Newport's docks were a major coal exporting hub and the city had several heavy industries. Most of these have now closed and the city is being revamped. Several government departments and national companies now have bases in Newport. Newport hotels are in a central position for the city’s vibrant nightlife. Newport possesses two large live music venues, St Woolos Cathedral, two museums packed with exhibits, and the Riverfront Arts and Theatre Centre. The 17th century Tredegar House is set in a large park close to the M4.
