Introduction to Neath, Wales

The tiny historic market town of Neath in southern Wales has just enough attractions for visitors to make it a decent stopover. Most of the upscale hotels in Neath are clustered around the railway station, the main public transportation gateway to the town, catering to both business travellers and leisure travellers. The town’s historic highlight is Neath Abbey, regarded by many as the loveliest in the country. It was built in 1130 and today serves as a popular tourist attraction. The Neath Museum and Art Gallery can be found in the town centre at Gwyn Hall. Here you can learn about the natural history and archaeology of the area. The 18th-century Gnoll Estate is a beautifully landscaped garden open to the public and ideal for a stroll around its lakes. Nearby is the Margam Stones Museum with its huge collection of ancient stone crosses and sculptures.
