Introduction to Hereford, Wales
Hereford is an English city that formerly belonged to Wales. It is located just 16 miles from the Welsh border. This cathedral city in the county of Herefordshire, on the River Wye, has a population of roughly 55,000 people. The cathedral dates back to the early 11th century, making it among the oldest in England. Inside, you can view an incredible mappa mundi, a map of the world during medieval times which dates back to the 13th century. The cathedral also contains the renowned Chained Library. Hereford is today mainly known as an agricultural trading area and was the birthplace of the Hereford breed of cattle. It is also home to the world's largest cider maker, Weston's Cider. If visiting this bustling county city, Hereford hotels are not hard to find and are located throughout the town. There are also some excellent shopping facilities, particularly in the city centre, where you can visit the stylish Maylord Shopping Centre.
