Introduction to Harlech, Wales
Harlech is a small town and seaside resort located along the Cardigan Bay coast in the Welsh county of Gwynedd. This town of roughly 2,000 inhabitants sits between the foothills of Snowdonia and the Bay of Cardigan, looking westwards onto the Llyn Peninsula. The town is well known for its medieval castle, built in the 13th century by King Edward I of England. Harlech Castle dominates the town and can be seen for miles around. The charming old town is found on the hill behind the castle and is lined with stone cottages set on narrow streets and is well worth spending some time in. In Harlech town centre, there are a number of cafes and restaurants to choose from as well as a variety of shops, including gift, antique and craft shops. Harlech hotels are also located in the town and provide great bases for those who want to enjoy the area's walking trails. The landscape for hiking enthusiasts is ideal, with flat coastal strip and rolling hills in close proximity to one another.
