Introduction to Denbigh, Wales

A large town in the north of Wales in the county of the same name, Denbigh lies just 13 miles south of the beach resort of Rhyl. It remains a tourist attraction in its own right due to its historic buildings and places of interest. Denbigh Castle is one of the main sites here, overlooking the town from a hilly vantage point just outside the town. Much of the old 13th century structure lies in ruins but the main gateway and part of one of its towers is still clearly defined. So too are many of the walls further back in the building, yet the roof has been destroyed. Leicester's Church, once planned as a cathedral, is an unfinished building here that dates back to the end of the 16th century. Denbigh hotels are numerous, particularly along Love Lane and the A545, and many have good views of the castle.
