Introduction to Bangor, Wales
The Welsh coastal city of Bangor in the north of the country is popular with tourists and those travelling to or from Ireland. It is a particularly picturesque city and as it has a large university, there is no shortage of bars and cafes. Nearby are Penrhyn Castle and Bangor Pier; many tourists also visit Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery. Although the city might not be full of attractions, Bangor hotels are plentiful as the city is located near to Snowdonia National Park, a popular area for travellers who love hiking among rolling hills and lakes. As the city is situated on the northern coast of Wales, it has a fantastic view of the bay, especially as the sun sets. The nearby port of Holyhead offers ferry services to Dublin. Trains link the small city with Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and London (3 hours). The 6th century cathedral is the most prominent landmark in Bangor while Penrhyn Castle, protected by National Trust, also makes for a pleasant visit.
