Getting There

Getting to Hanoi
By air: Hanoi Noi Bai Airport is 35km from the city centre and is a relatively new airport equipped with most modern passenger facilities. The airport receives flights from a variety of Asian destinations such as Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Siem Reap and Vientiane.
The airport is well served by taxis and if you fly with Vietnam Airlines then there’s a free minibus into the city. Visitors should be aware that there is a $14USD airport tax that you are required to pay when leaving the country.
By bus: it’s possible to get from Cambodia and Laos to Vietnam by bus although both routes come with their downsides and the latter especially is not considered safe for tourists. If you are already in the country then you can travel from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to Hanoi on tourist buses that generally take several days and stop to take in interesting sights en route.
By road: visitors are not legally permitted to drive cars in Vietnam so car rental is not really an option for getting to Hanoi. You can however rent a car and a driver if you wish and have them drive you to the city although this is undoubtedly an expensive way of getting there.
