Hanoi - take a cruise tour of Halong Bay
Halong Bay is possibly one of the most stunning landscapes in the world and a cruise around it can be the highlight of your trip to Vietnam. Possibly the most important Buddhist temple in Vietnam the Perfume Pagoda near Hanoi is also not the easiest to get to but is worth the visit. There are nearly 200km of tunnels in the Cu Chi tunnel system just outside of Ho Chi Minh City dating back to when Cu Chi freedom fighters needed protection from French air attacks and later American attacks during the Vietnam War. There are also a large number of rooms excavated out along the tunnels that served as schools, hospitals and sleeping accommodation. There have been many films and documentaries about the Vietnam War from the American perspective and the War Remnants Museum portrays the war from the Viet Cong’s viewpoint.
