Introduction to Hanoi - West Lake
Hanoi’s West Lake is one of the most picturesque areas of the city. This massive lake with a shoreline spanning 17kms is located in the centre of the city. On the lake, it is possible to go boating, while back on the shore there a pleasant spots to sit and watch the sun set over Hanoi. There are also many restaurants set up in the area, serving a range of local food. In the centre of West Lake is Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in Vietnam. It is on a small island that is reachable by boat and there is a tree here which is said to have been a cutting from the tree that the Buddha sat under when he achieved enlightenment. The Quan Thanh Taoist Temple, which is one of the four sacred temples in Hanoi, is also in the area. It houses the famous Tran Vu statue. West Lake hotels tend to be on the pricey side as this is one of the most affluent areas of the city.Visit our Hanoi Travel Guide
