Introduction to Dalat, Vietnam
Le Petite Paris, or Dalat is it's known in Vietnam, has been wooing lovers and holidaymakers alike to its wonderfully cool climes for decades since the French started building getaway villas here. Like a crossbreeding experiment between the French Alps and Vietnam, Dalat is a tourist town. People come to this mountain highlands town to get married, have a honeymoon, play golf and hike around the lush, rolling hills that envelope it. Xuan Huong Lake is a fun place to rent a boat right in the centre of town and is overlooked by some of the nicer Dalat hotels. Tours taking visitors to the colonial mansions of old, cable car rides over the forested hills to Truc Lam Zen Monastery and four-wheel drive treks to the top of Langbiang Mountain are also popular here. A scenic vintage steam train runs for seven kilometres to Trai Mat and Linh Phuong Pagoda, offering another fun way to spend an afternoon.
