No street in Caracas, Venezuela's capital city, is longer, busier, or better known than Sabana Grande Boulevard. Otherwise known as Avenida Abraham Lincoln, Sabana Grande is primarily a street open only to pedestrians and dominated by dozens of outdoor street stalls which sell virtually everything under the sun. Sabana Grande hotels are considered among the safest places to stay in Caracas, a city known for crime. Although the boulevard is situated in the geographic centre of Caracas, this part of the city is actually considered the city's midtown and is much safer than the historic Caracas city centre. The boulevard is constantly patrolled by police and contains several brightly-lit lamp posts, but visitors should still be watchful. The El Recreo and the many other indoor shopping centres surrounding the street offer decent places to pick up gifts. The boulevard is also filled with fascinating bookstores and cafes.
