Safety: Vanuatu is generally a safe place to visit, but tourists are always an easy target for petty theft. You should never leave valuables lying around and always ensure that you are aware of your surroundings. Lock money and passport in your hotel safe and avoid flashing jewellery and cash around in public.
When to go: the islands’ climate varies considerably. The north of Vanuatu generally gets more rain and suffers from a much higher level of humidity than the south. From May through until October, the islands experience their dry season. The wet season begins in November and stretches through until April. Cyclones are common between December and May.
Emergency: Vanuatu’s emergency response time operates on what is known as ‘island time’, which means it is slow.
