Introduction to Las Vegas, New Mexico
Las Vegas is a city of nearly 15,000 people in New Mexico's San Miguel County. Not to be confused with the world-famous gambling destination in Nevada, its namesake offers visitors a cultural break, with museums and historic buildings among the most visited attractions. Travellers can reach Las Vegas hotels by flying to Albuquerque, 125 miles from the city centre. Alternatively, visitors can take an Amtrak train directly to the city courtesy of the Southwest Chief. There are at least 900 historic places in the city, so visitors might like to join a guided walking tour in order to make some sense of it all. One of the best places to learn about the city's history is the City of Las Vegas Museum & Rough Rider Memorial. The museum tells the story of the Rough Riders' reunions as well as the Santa Fe Trail. The city is a good base for exploring nearby wildlife centres. Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge is a good place to see migratory birds during early spring and late autumn. Lake McAllister is part of the refuge and offers opportunities for fishing and camping. other spellings: las vegashotels nm, lasvegas otel nm, las vagas nm hotell, lasvergas hote nm
