Chinle is part of Navajo Nation, the largest Native American reservation in the United States.

This reservation occupies a large part of northeastern Arizona, southern Utah, and northwestern New Mexico, and is an import tourist destination that is open to sharing Native American culture with visitors.

Chinle hotels sit on the edge of the Canyon de Chelley National Monument, a unit of the National Park Service that is owned as part of the Navajo Tribal Trust Land.

The canyons are filled with ruins of early indigenous tribes and surround a great sandstone spire known as Spider Rock.

Northeast of Chinle are two famous Southwestern sites, the picturesque Monument Valley on the Utah border and Four Corners, the point where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah meet.

To the south is the reservation's capital, Window Rock, which nearly straddles the state line between New Mexico and Arizona.

Throughout the reservation, Navajo rugs, folk art, crafts and other handiworks are available for purchase.

Further south, travellers can reach the famous Painted Desert found within Petrified Forest National Park.
