North of Arizona's second-largest city of Tucson, the community of Casas Adobes is a beautiful suburb located close to the heart of the city.

Its name comes from the adobe bricks used to build the large ranch-style homes that line its streets.

Cattle ranchers occupied the land before it became Tucson's first suburb; one of the first citrus groves was planted here in the 1920s and later became the centre of Tucson's citrus industry.

Casas Adobes hotels are next to northern Tucson's most unique shopping centre, Casas Adobes Plaza.

Complete with an observation tower, the plaza was built in authentic Mediterranean style with Italian vignettes, fountains and statues decorating the establishment.

The neighbourhood also contains the area's only shopping mall, Foothills Mall, and Tohono Chul Park, the area's only botanical park and one of the most biologically diverse nature preserves in the state.

Oro Valley to the north sits in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, where Catalina State Park and its many trails include the region's most beautiful peaks and forests.
