Abu Dhabi Travel Guide

History

History of Abu Dhabi
At that time, nomadic tribes discovered a freshwater source on the island and began the establishment of what soon became a small fishing village. As the region became more important to both local Bedouin tribes and the British naval fleet, Abu Dhabi became more strategically significant as well.
It wasn’t until recent times, however, that Abu Dhabi rose to greater significance globally. In 1958, enormous oil reserves were discovered, drawing a great deal of interest. The end of British colonialism in the region came in 1971, followed shortly thereafter by the founding of the UAE, with Abu Dhabi as its capital city.
Along with the sharp rise in international popularity of nearby Dubai, Abu Dhabi is fast following as a holiday destination for upmarket travellers the world over. Its many activities and luxury amenities are favourable and the excellent infrastructure is expected to catapult it to the status Dubai enjoys now, within a short time.
