Festivals & Events

Festivals and Events in Abu Dhabi
March Festivals

Abu Dhabi Shopping Festival: this is a gigantic trade fair, held annually in March, at which all sorts of goods are on exhibit and for sale – at amazingly low prices. Merchandise from Abu Dhabi, other emirates and countries worldwide is featured.
May Festivals

Abu Dhabi International Jazz Festival: held in May each year, this annual 10-day extravaganza features top international jazz talent and draws huge crowds. This began as a two-day event and continues to grow in popularity every year.
Leilat al-Meiraj: is the celebration of the Ascension of the Prophet. The annual commemoration occurs in August, in honour of the ascension of Mohammed to heaven. This is a time of great feasts and festivities, similar to those occurring during all other important Islamic holy days.
November Festivals

UAE Desert Challenge: beginning in Abu Dhabi and ending in Dubai, this annual cross-country rally is one of the world’s premier off-road races. You’ll find many of the top international drivers and their teams here to compete in this important event, held in November.
No Fixed Date

Ramadan: is Islam’s month-long period of fasting, requiring the faithful to refrain from eating each day from dawn until dusk. Non-Muslims are certainly not expected to participate in the fast, but should not be seen eating in public before sunset. The timing of Ramadan varies every year, as it is determined by the lunar calendar
Eid al-Fitr: marks the end of the fasting of Ramadan, and is undoubtedly one of Islam’s most popular celebrations. Three days of feasting and festivities are the highlight of this event, which also varies in timing, according to the lunar calendar – and the end of Ramadan.
