Istanbul Travel Guide - Things To Do

Narghile: more commonly known as a hookah, the Hindustani term, a narghile is a Turkish water pipe used for smoking flavoured tobacco, a pastime that remains as popular as ever, particularly among the male contingent of Istanbul.
A good place to track down a cafe that offers the chance to smoke a narghile is Caddesi or Yeni Marmara. In doing so, you will be offered a variety of different flavours of tobacco in the pipe, which can be smoked by between two and three people at the same time.
Check out venues like Q Jazz Club, which plays live jazz in a basement all night in an intimate yet lively atmosphere. Find it at Caddesi and feel free to stay until 04:00 like everyone else.
Turkish delight: if you thought that Turkey’s favourite sweet was the same lemon and rose water flavour you usually find elsewhere in Europe, then think again. In Istanbul there are dozens of different flavours to try out which make excellent souvenirs to take back home.
You can also take a guided walking tour that will explain more of the history behind some of Istanbul’s greatest landmarks, an experience which accounts for 2,000 years of history.
