Istanbul Travel Guide - Eating Out

Traditional Turkish food revolves around the ever-popular doner kebab, a thick hunk of meat that is slowly turned and cooked to perfection. The usual choice of meat is lamb which is marinated beforehand and then served in a flatbread with salad; there are plenty of sauces to add to your heart’s content.
The dish is, of course, almost as popular in England especially as well as other parts of the world as it is in Turkey. There are a number of kebab chains in Istanbul such as Kosebabi Kebab along with plenty of other individual restaurants.
Local cuisine

Turkey’s largest city is also well-known for its tasty range of sweets such as Turkish delight, or lokum as it is known here, which comes in an array of different flavours compared to when you buy it outside the country.
The ice creams in Istanbul are also worth a try, a slightly more chewy experience then you would normally find due to the addition of orchid root extract, although this is not always the case. Despite the exotic addition, the flavours available are more like what you’re used to at home.
