Introduction to Sile, Turkey
Sile is a small Turkish holiday resort located on the shores on the Black Sea, only around 70kms from the country's largest city, Istanbul. There are roughly 10,000 people living in the town, although between June and September this number rapidly increases due to the many Istanbul residents who own summer homes in Sile. The town is part of Istanbul Province and has become famous for its beaches, but like many other beaches along the Black Sea, the sandy stretch here can be dangerous for swimming by those who are not experienced. In addition to holiday homes, there are many Sile hotels to choose from when visiting the town, with both western-styled and authentic Turkish options on offer. Among the best known sites in Sile is the tomb of the Muslim saint Kum Baba, which looks down on the town from the top of a tree-covered hill. Transport links to Istanbul are excellent as the town is covered by the city's public transport system, known as IETT.
