Sapanca is a small town located on the south shores of Lake Sapanca, in the Sakarya Province of Turkey's Marmara region. The area is well located for those visiting from Istanbul, 140kms to the west, and Izmir, just 35kms in the same direction. Transport links to the town are good and the main 0-4 Anatolian Highway heads west to Istanbul and southeast to the capital, Ankara, which is around 300kms away. The town can be reached by train, with the nearest station located close to the centre of the town. Sapanca is the largest town on the lake and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts due to its camping sites and hiking trails. The area is particularly scenic, with mountains, valleys and canyons providing a photographic landscape.
