Introduction to Rize, Turkey

Rize, on the Black Sea coast in the country's northeast, is the provincial capital of one of Turkey's smallest provinces. It is the centre of the tea industry and has many packing and processing factories. The city has been built in a location where the entire mountainsides are covered by bright green tea bushes. Rize's Ziraat Park offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area, enabling visitors to take in the unique beauty. The city hosts an annual tea festival each summer when the best tea grower receives a prize. Among the city's interesting sites are the 16th century Islam Pasha Mosque, the Ataturk Museum and the Citadel. To the south of Rize is Kackar Mountains National Park, an ideal location for those passionate about trekking and mountain climbing. The area is particularly scenic with its fast-flowing streams, glacier lakes and high plateaus. Rize hotels are located around the city and are available at affordable prices.
