Introduction to Marmaris - Outskirts
Turkey’s Marmaris is one of the country’s most popular Mediterranean Sea resorts, with hundreds of Marmaris hotels available to cater for the 200,000-plus tourists that arrive here annually in the peak season. The liveliest place here is the city centre, but many visitors prefer the peaceful beach-hugging area of Armutalan, where music is banned after midnight. As the resort attracts lots of British, Eastern European and Russian package holidaymakers, many of the tourist facilities here are far from being authentically Turkish. Night-time entertainment reign supreme, and the Bar Street area should be avoided by those who don't wish to be disturbed by the noise of revellers. Excursions to neighbouring towns and historical and geological sites like Ephesus and Pamukkale are a must. Boat cruises that take passengers around the coast and to nearby islands are a great activity for all the family, as are inland jeep safaris.
