Introduction to Istanbul - Kumkapi
The Kumkapi district of Istanbul, also known as Kondoskali, is one of the liveliest parts of the city. Its location right on the water has given rise to an excellent seafood restaurant scene that attracts locals and tourists alike from all over Istanbul. Kumkapi is centred around its main plaza, where six streets converge. Restaurants and bars line the edge of the square, offering pleasant sidewalk dining during the warm months. The urban train network stops right in Kumkapi, so it's easy to reach this old fishermen's village from anywhere in the city. There aren't many hotels in Kumkapi to choose from, so most visitors simply come here for an evening meal. This traditional Armenian district, however, has an incredible atmosphere and the streets surrounding the main square make for memorable wandering. This distinctive Armenian culture can be seen in the shops and old churches that dot the neighbourhood such as Rum Kilsesi. Visit our Istanbul Travel Guide
