Introduction to Istanbul - Beyoglu
On the European side of Istanbul is the district of Beyoglu, separated from the historic old city of Constantinople by the Golden Horn. Beyoglu contains several neighbourhoods north of the Golden Horn such as Galata, Tophane, Cihangir and others, and is connected to Istanbul's old quarter by the Galata and Unkapani bridges. This part of Istanbul is known for its vibrant nightlife, entertainment and art scenes. From Taksim Square, visitors can enjoy a long pedestrian strip lined with art galleries, cafes, bars, theatres and other attractions. The historic tram that runs along Istiklal Avenue is an ideal way to see the Art Nouveau and Neoclassical buildings in this district. There are tons of things to see and do in Beyoglu, including the impressive Pera Museum, the Dogancay Museum and the fun of Nevizade Street at night. Beyoglu hotels offer a great option for accommodation when staying in Istanbul. Convenient to all the attractions of the Old City, yet within a wonderful neighbourhood of its own, this part of town offers the best of both worlds. Visit our Istanbul Travel Guide
