Introduction to Foca, Turkey
The seat of the district of the same name, Foca in Turkey's Izmir Province is situated just over 40 miles to the northwest of Izmir. Evidence of the town's occupation by the Genoese and later the Ottomans is still present in many of its old stone buildings, while a handful of ruined windmills dating to the 19th century mark the approach to town. The stunning Aegean coastline here is made up of a number of protected coves and bays. Tourists often opt for a boat tour of the coast and the several islands offshore to take in the many villages made up of traditional architecture, as well as the places that are thought to have been featured in Homer's Odyssey. The recently expanded marina is the centre of tourism in the town, with its moored yachts and seafood restaurants. The summer months from June through to August see the town swell in population as Foca hotels fill with international guests. These visitors mostly come for the unspoilt beaches, the warm weather and the value-for-money eateries. other spellings: focahotels, focca otel, phoca hotell, fuca hote, foka hotles, foga hotle, foca hotes
