Introduction to Edremit, Turkey
Set just inland from the Aegean coast, Edremit is one of Balikesir Province's largest cities. This Turkish trade centre doesn't offer the fantastic beaches of nearby coastal resorts, but Edremit hotels make for comfortable bases for overnight visitors en route to the Greek island of Lesbos or Turkey's North Aegean coastal resorts. Nicknamed the 'Olive Capital of Turkey', this is perhaps the best place in the country to sample Turkish olives. There is not much to draw tourists to the city itself, but the Edremit Museum and the Derman thermal spring are on hand for those with time to kill. Walking the city streets will reveal a handful of old mosques and a modern centre dotted with statues. Kaz Dagi National Park sits to the northwest and is a popular excursion for nature lovers. The biggest local attraction, however, are the beaches to the west, where clean waters make for great swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. other spellings: edremithotels, edermit hotell, edremet hote, eddremit otel, edemit hotle, edremid
