Ciftlik in Turkey is one of many small holiday communities that line the 90kms of beaches around the Turkish resort town of Cesme.

The area sits in the Aegean Sea, some 12kms from the Greek Island of Chios.

This is a stunningly beautiful part of the world and huge numbers of tourists flock here to Western Turkey in the holiday season.

Hotels in Ciftlik sit in a low-lying, rather windswept community comprised largely of holiday villas.

Access to the sea is excellent, with beaches running almost the full length of the bay on which the community is located.

Pirlanta Beach, about three kilometres to the west, offers the most impressive wide sandy beach with crystal-clear waters.

It can get very windy here, making it popular for kite and wind surfing.

The whole area enjoys beautiful views across the sea to Chios, and sunsets can be spectacular.

The 19th century resort town of Illica, which is about 12kms to the east, is home to a number of thermal springs, some of which heat the sea.

The biggest local town, Cesme, is only eight kilometres away and offers many great attractions, including a fabulous old castle and an old town containing many fine neo-classical buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
