Introduction to Canakkale - Cevatpasa
Canakkale is a historical city and port in the west of Turkey that is considered to be the gateway to the ancient city of Troy. Much of the city's accommodation can be found in the city centre, while other lodgings are located in Cevatpasa. Cevatpasa hotels offer easy access to the city's ferry terminal, 500m away, while the airport is around three kilometres to the east. Ferry is one of the easiest ways to reach the city from the European mainland, with round-the-clock departures from the Turkish port at Eceabat. Alternatively, domestic flights depart from Ankara three times a week courtesy of Turkish Airlines. The Naval Museum, located 400m west of the ferry terminal, is one of the city's main attractions. It is set in and around cimenlik Castle, which dates back to 1461. Its highlight attractions are the replica of the Nusret minelayer and a collection of photographs from battles in WWI. The Trojan horse from the film Troy is situated on the seafront, a two-minute walk east of the ferry terminal.
