Introduction to Bodrum - Umurca
The popular Aegean Sea resort town of Bodrum is a major centre for tourism and yachting in Turkey. Umurca is a district on the eastern edge of town, where the development gives way to the dry rolling hills. This ancient city has some wonderful historic and cultural attractions, though none of them are actually in Umurca. This part of town is focused more on the present, with a thin sliver of beach developed into a typical Turkish resort town scene. While the beach at Umurca isn't anything spectacular, it serves its purpose and is bordered by dozens of nice beachfront restaurants, bars and nightclubs. This is a partying section of Bodrum, as the 4,000-person capacity Halikarnas outdoor nightclub can easily testify. There are plenty of hotels in Umurca, ranging from budget guesthouses to very nice apartment-style accommodation just off the beach. If nightlife is a priority, this area is a good choice since the rest of Bodrum and its cultural attractions are easily reached from here.
