Introduction to Bodrum - Akyarlar
Akyarlar, Turkey, is a picturesque fishing village just 30kms east of the bustling resort of Bodrum and five kilometres from the Greek island of Kos. Its close proximity to Greece has made the region especially popular among Greek tourists, and Bodrum hotels can be found all around town. Windsurfers from around the world are attracted to the area’s constant sea breezes - known as 'meltem' in Turkish - which also create a cooler environment than most other parts of the region. The beach here is considered among the safest and sandiest in this part of the world, and is lined with several intimate cafes and fishing vessels. The moon-shaped stretch of sand here gives a distinctly secluded feeling but fresh breezes still come rolling in from the surrounding hills. The village of Kemer, slightly farther up the coast, offers a quieter spot in peek season. The 1931 French-build Huseyin Point Lighthouse is also a popular attraction, sitting just above Kum Hammai beach.
