Introduction to Akbuk, Turkey
Akbuk is a small Turkish holiday resort in a bay located in the Aegean region. The permanent population of the town is only around 4,000 people. However, during the summer, this number grows to 50,000 due to an influx of local and foreign tourists. The town lies in the centre of the country's most popular coastline, between Kusadasi and Bodrum. Akbuk is in a wonderful location, in a pleasant natural environment surrounded by forests with pine and olive trees. There are many beautiful beaches and bays which offer safe, clean and warm water for swimming. Doctors recommend the resort for sufferers of asthma due to its oxygen-rich atmosphere. The town began life as a fishing village but largely due to its ideal location and the fact that it receives an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, it has evolved into a popular tourist destination, with many holiday homes and Akbuk hotels to be found all over the town. Among the town's attractions are boat trips from the harbour that take visitors to the nearby islands and bays. There are also many lively bars and restaurants as well as an open-air market held once a week.
