Introduction to Adapazari, Turkey
Adapazari is a large city of over 550,000 in the northwest of Turkey and the capital of the province of Sakarya. The city also goes by the name of Sakarya and is located just a few kilometres to the northeast of the charming Lake Sapanca. The city is located on the Ankara-Istanbul Highway and is connected to other major cities by both rail and road. Adapazari dates back as far as 378 BC; however, its identity comes from the Byzantine and Roman rulers who once reigned here. There are still remains of historical significance around the city including the Justinianus Bridge, constructed in 533 AD by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian. The city is a major industrial area and home to a Toyota Motor Corporation factory as well as a Hyundai EURotem train factory. Adapazari is only around a 1 hour, 30 minute drive from Istanbul along the O-4 Highway.
