Getting Around

Getting Around Tunis
Bus: intercity buses are not especially tourist-friendly by any means although they are certainly the cheapest option for getting between major visitor attractions. Negotiating the local services can provide something of a challenge, as English speaking drivers, are something of a rarity. The Bab Alleoua bus station has an information desk at which staff can provide tourists with relevant bus travel information.
Taxi: taxis are readily available in Tunis and unlike in many other capital cities in the world, they are very reasonably priced and are invariably the best option for speedy transportation within the city limits.
Road: if you hire a car then drive with extreme caution within Tunis as the locals are renowned for their reckless habits and lack of observance of road regulations. The city has plenty of places to park but visitors are advised to choose somewhere well lit and populated else run the risk of the vehicle being stolen or broken into.
