Beach: Hammamet is essentially a beach-holiday destination and hence provided it’s not too hot out, you can head down to the soft white sands to catch a few rays or relax with a good book. Some basic water activities are on offer with local companies providing equipment and know-how. In the summer, it’s best to steer clear of the beach between 12:00 and 15:00 as the sun is at its most brutal.
Carthageland: although not quite as big or impressive as some of Europe’s theme parks, Carthageland is still worth a visit all the same. Pay once and you can use all the park’s facilities for an entire day; you can even leave, have your hand stamped and come back later in the afternoon. The park’s small selection of amusement park rides is appealing to children and makes for a good family day.
Golf: Tunisia is a great golfing destination offering enthusiasts of the game plenty of opportunity to indulge their passion. The Golf Yasmine course is the finest in the area, offering 18 holes of international standard in what is a truly beautiful setting. There is no better way to enjoy fresh Mediterranean air and pleasant greenery than by combining it with your favourite leisure/sporting activity.
Nightlife: Hammamet has a great evening entertainment scene which includes an abundance of bars and night cafes as well as discotheques of the covered and open-air variety. Despite the Muslim attitude to alcohol, drinking can be enjoyed until the wee hours of the morning at many an establishment.
Shopping: shopping opportunities in the old quarter or Medina, as it is otherwise known, are plentiful and anyone looking to get something to take home to remind them of their holiday would be wise to start here. With everything from textiles to jewellery to edible goods, this is the place to find all things traditionally Tunisian and to enjoy the whole cultural experience that haggling for goods offers.
