Introduction to Gammarth - La Marsa
La Marsa is an old colonial seaside town on Tunisia's northwestern Gulf of Tunis. Nowadays, it is an outer suburb of the city of Tunis and a popular destination for domestic and foreign tourists. The Corniche follows the headland around the edge of town above the town's golden sands. Most of the La Marsa hotels and pensions options here are situated close to the Corniche or in the lanes leading off it. These lanes are lined with pictorial whitewashed houses. The town's suburban railway terminus, which has frequent services to Tunis, is nearby. The city's international airport is halfway between the city and La Marsa. This proximity ensures that accommodation here is a good choice, even for overnight stays. The resort is family oriented but it has its fair selection of restaurants and shops. The eateries serve anything from gourmet French baguettes to couscous and baklawa desserts.
