Despite being the world's second-smallest continent, Europe is the birthplace of Western culture. The Ancient Greeks had a huge influence on civilisation including philosophy, arts, science and politics. Europe therefore offers a diversity of culture, history and entertainment that can't be found anywhere else. The dominant cities of London, Rome, Berlin, Madrid and Paris have a wealth of attractions to keep the visitor occupied for weeks. Southern Europe is a popular destination for summer holidays with its wonderful beaches, sunny climes and great food. Northern Europe is less-visited but offers a pleasant contrast with beautiful scenery and friendly people. Over the last 15 years Eastern Europe has transformed itself into a popular place to visit, especially the culturally-rich cities of Budapest and Prague.
