Just under 100 miles south of Cuba, the Cayman Islands are regarded as one of the world’s best scuba diving sites. Vibrant coral walls host an astonishing variety of marine life and the unbelievably clear waters ensure excellent visibility. There are also a few offshore shipwrecks worth exploring. On the primary island of Grand Cayman, snorkellers can safely swim with stingrays in the aptly named Stringray City. Back on land, the jet-black volcanic rocks of ‘Hell’ are a popular tourist attraction, while history buffs will find there are plenty of historic sites to explore, including Pedro St James Castle, which was built in the 1700s. The Cayman Turtle Farm in West Bay hosts more than 14,000 sea turtles and visitors have plenty of hands-on opportunities to get involved.
