Beijing is unapologetically Chinese is every respect and visitors will find few aspects pandering to the needs of foreigners. In some ways this is a good thing as most visitors are guaranteed a truly authentic Chinese experience with nothing diluted for their benefit and a distinct absence of tacky themed western businesses. The other side of the coin is that few people speak competent, if any English and communicating with the locals really does take an extra slice of effort.
