Travel within Africa has never been easy, particularly by road, yet several airlines have opened up traditionally difficult-to-reach destinations to make getting about fast and efficient. South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Kenya Airways are the major airlines, with South African Airways providing the most coverage having hubs in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Every African country has at least one major airport however bus travel provides the mainstay of public transport. Getting about by car is tough everywhere but the biggest cities, with the exception of Cape Town and a few other centres. Organising an overland adventure by hire car is not recommended owing to high levels of crime and bad roads as well as heavy wet seasons. Overland tour trucks provide the best option for sightseeing, where all travel, accommodation and food is taken care of.
