Udon Thani province offers tourists a variety of exquisite sights including natural beauty of the countryside and interesting places of archaeological wonders. The most significant site that makes Udon Thani stand out among other provinces in the region is Ban Chiang cultural community, in Nong Han district. Nominated as the World Heritage Site in 1992, this attraction unveils prehistoric items and is believed to be the origin of a prehistoric civilisation.

The second part displays old artefacts, ancient Ban Chiang culture, utensils, tools, pottery and jewellery dating back about 7000 years ago. Ban Chiang gained its international fame through its authentic earthenware pots, believed to be a link to the origin of a prehistoric civilisation. The design of the earthenware boasts the oldest designs in the world. The earthenware is considered one of the most historic items known among archaeologists.
Bang Phue: is a district located 42 kms northwest of Udon Thani offering interesting sights of prehistoric cave paintings, fascinating geological formations, and Buddhist shrines.
Phra Phutthabat (Holy Footprint) Bua Ban: situated on the Phu Phan hill in Bang Phue district, 12 kms south of Phu Phra Bat Historical Park. Phra Phutthabat Bua Ban is famous among the locals who come to worship an imitation of the holy footprint of the Lord Buddha.
Krom Luang Prachaksinlapakhom Monument: is the monument located at the centre of the province to commemorate the founder of Udon Thani, Krom Luang Prachasinlapakhom, King Rama V’s son. Locals usually go to pay respect to the monument and place beautiful garlands of flowers in front of the monument.
The City Shrine: is one of the important places of worship among the locals. Located in Tung Sri district, the City Shrine or San Lak Muang is believed to be the place where the city’s guardian deity resides. The remarkable monument was built in Isaan style with the compound also housing God Wetsuwan, the province’s protecting God. This place is breathtakingly beautiful at night when all the lights are lit up.
