Nightlife

Nightlife in Phuket
Patong: is the centre of the action for those who have come to party. Some find it sleazy and steer clear, others come especially for the numerous bars. Thailand’s reputation for sex extends beyond Bangkok and Phuket too hasn’t escaped this vice, which is certainly a popular attraction for some.
Fortunately, it’s pretty harmless and easy to ignore. Bang La is a walking street which is loaded with little lanes full of open air bars and ‘friendly’ ladies hanging off bar stools yelling ‘hello you’re welcome’. Most are young and exuberant and the majority of foreigners who cruise through this thoroughfare are simply people watching. The transvestites can be a little pushy on men but are easily brushed off.
But there is more to Patong than this, with good night shopping and numerous restaurants. Karaoke is another popular Asian preoccupation and can be loads of embarrassing fun; some even provide pretty hostesses to do the singing for you.
Phuket Town: caters to the locals with numerous Thai bars, karaoke lounges and discos. There is also a lively evening atmosphere around the market area, and shopping goes on late.
Kata and Karon: are busy places, even at night and tend to be tamer, but still have their naughty pockets discreetly tucked away. You’re more likely to spend the evening in Karon in a quiet bar or restaurant, or shopping, while Kata is more refined and has plenty of up-market evening venues, including bars and restaurants.
Other beaches such as Kamala, Surin, Bang Tao and Nai Harn are very quiet in the evening with options confined to your hotel, with the exception of Kamala which has a small centre away from the beach.
