Getting Around

Getting Around Phuket
Road: a good network of roads connects the west coast beaches with the interior but travel times are usually longer than the maps might suggest as there are hilly ridges to be traversed. Hiring a car is a good idea for exploring the island and travelling between beaches and resorts. Motor scooters are also popular and practical, and easy to ride but accidents are common on these roads. For getting around the adjacent area they are ideal.
Taxi: this is the most common option for visitors and you won’t have been in Phuket long before being solicited for business. They are found everywhere and at all times, and are cheap to hire, although you sometimes have to argue with them to use the meter, especially for airport runs. There are both saloon metered taxis and open backed vans that require setting a price first.
