Beach lounging: is easily the most popular leisure activity on Phuket, and the sight of rows and rows of loungers and colourful umbrellas offers a lasting impression of Phuket. Almost every beach has loungers for rent and reasonable prices and a steady stream of vendors ensures you never go hungry or thirsty.
Some loungers are offered by hotels that have beachfront locations and others are adjacent to bars and restaurants that will serve you while you gaze out to sea.
Alternatively, many hotels also have pools for freshwater swimming and there are pools at the waterfalls for a refreshing dip.
Courses: taking a Thai cooking course is one practical idea to add some variety to a beach schedule. These have been detailed in the things to do section.
Spas: have become immensely popular in recent years and there are dozens in Phuket offering some of the best value you’ll find anywhere in the world. A day spent pampering yourself in a boutique spa, with its soothing gardens and water features, is well worth it and affordable. The Thai are masters at massage and body care and all sorts of health programmes are offered at varying prices.
For these you will have to venture over to Phuket Town but each of the resort areas has a selection of boutiques and shops, including second hand book shops (for English language holiday reads). Antiques, gems, jewellery, handicrafts and silk are particular products for which the country is famous.
