The island has become a popular tourist destination since the 1970s and is popular with both locals and foreigners, most famously due to its many exquisite beaches. In fact the island is fairly small and lacks the lush inland of bigger mountainous islands. Most visitors are content to lie in the sun in their beach area and relax.
Hat Sai Kaew: (or Diamond beach) is one of the most famous beaches on the island. The island’s longest beach has snow-white sand and charming green-blue water, Hat Sai Kaew is a must to visit, located in the northeast of the island.
Ao Vong Duan: is also very well-known for its sandy beach. The sand is as white and inviting as Hai Sai Kaew. The bay is 500 metre long and is in the shape of half moon (the name Vong Duan means half of the moon in Thai). People usually come here to witness spectacular sunrises on the island. Many cheap and friendly hotels can be found near the beach. It is located further south from Hat Sai Kaew, beyond a headland.
Ao Phai, Ao Wai, Ao Kui Na Nok and Ao Kui Na Nai: are smaller beaches on the east coast. These beaches are very charming and worth a visit if you want to indulge yourself in the serenity and walk on delicate white sand.
Khao Laem Ya-Moo Koh Samet National Park: is situated in seacoast area of Thai Gulf in Klang district and city district in Rayong province. The area covers some land on the province and many islands including Koh Samet - which is the best known part of the park for natural beauty.
The National Park boasts various trees and exquisite wild flowers. Many small wild animals and birds can be seen in the park as well as baby turtles in the conservation area. As Koh Samet is a national park, the government regulates the tourism industry and charge an additional fee when you arrive on the island.
