Koh Pha Ngan Travel Guide

Attractions

Attractions in Koh Pha Ngan
Haad Rin: is the busiest beach on the island and despite being very commercially developed and crowded over each full moon period, it still has a lovely beach on the east side (haad rin nok), especially when viewed from the headland.
Haad Rin sits on a peninsula at the southern tip of the island sandwiched between two beaches and has the island’s biggest concentration of bungalows, restaurants, bars, shops, internet cafes and other services.
Chaloklum Bay: is a sweeping bay on the north of the island with a fairly decent beach and a pier which serves the fishing community here. This is a perfect area to escape the hedonist atmosphere of the other beaches and get among the locals. The village is quieter and the settlement has an nice island character. Above the bay, on the road crossing the island is a colourful Chinese Temple, and the lovely Paradise Waterfall.
Koh Maa: is a small island off the northwest coast, near Chaloklum Bay, connected to the mainland by a spit of sand. It is good for casual, ‘do it yourself’ snorkelling and is well photographed from the view points above.
Waterfalls and National Parks: there are several on the island that attract visitors, and although they aren’t lofty or mighty, the eco-systems surrounding them offer a wonderful afternoon among the lush jungle.
Paradise waterfall, on the route to Chaloklum bay is popular, and there are two waterfalls - Phaeng and Phaeng noi in the centre of the island, with the added attraction of the Marble Buddha image nearby and mountain viewpoint. From here you can hike several hours to Kao Raa, the highest point on the island (627m).
Untamed East Coast: here you’ll really manage to escape from it, for many of the small bays are accessible by boat only. Several have bungalows on them and consist of little else but a beautiful white beach.
Taan Sadet is the best known, due to a long cascading river which was once visited by King Rama V. The two sweeping beaches of Tong Nai Pan, on the north east, are more developed but remain quiet and relaxed and can be reached by a pretty road that cuts through the uninhabited mountains of the island’s centre.
